Rezum Treatment for BPH Enlarged Prostate

The Rezum procedure is a safe and efficient BPH treatment that effectively relieves symptoms and preserves sexual function up to 5 years.

It involves passing a telescope through your urethra (waterpipe) and injecting steam into the obstructing prostate tissue around your urethra.

The prostate tissue then shrinks over the following 3-6 months and is designed to improve your urinary symptoms without the need for burning of removing any prostate tissue.

Side-effects can include:
• temporary burning and stinging when passing urine (1 in 3 patients)
• temporary bleeding in your urine (1 in 4 patients)
• temporary pain or discomfort in your pelvic area (between 1 in 5 and 1 in 6 patients)
• infection in your urine requiring treatment with antibiotics (1 in 15 patients)
• the procedure not relieving all symptoms, resulting in further treatment (1 in 25 patients)
• anaesthetic of cardiovascular problems (between 1 in 50 & 1 in 250 patients

The procedure is usually performed as a day-case, however you will need to have a bladder catheter for a few days after the procedure. The main benefits of this procedure include an earlier return to normal activities, that it is a minimally invasive (minor) procedure and sexual side-effects are rare.
